TAKE A LOOK AT THE LAYOUT OF OUR WORKSHEETS

In 2014 I delivered a lesson based around a new style of worksheet. The lesson was described as ‘exemplary’ after a local authority observation. Driven by this success, LoveMaths was born. Now LoveMaths is a growing library of high quality, student centered resources that don’t come at the expense of teachers’ time and well-being.

Division

Objectives in line with the new 9-1 system
Give pupils something to aim for. Every section on the worksheet relates to one of the lesson objectives. This ensures that pupils are learning relevant topics.
Keywords
Don’t forget the literacy High confidence can help pupils engage more in a subject. Help build their self-assurance by teaching your pupils the correct terminology.
Starter
Get them hooked with starters The first challenge of any lesson is getting your classroom ready to learn. Get your pupils hooked with a puzzle-based exercise.
Questions
Do the maths The best way to learn is to practice. Give your pupils 6 questions on the first objective to see how they do.
Assessment for Learning
Decide the next step Suggest appropriate extension tasks based on the child’s score. This gives all pupils a chance to either build on their skills or to receive extra support where needed.
Extension 1
Make sure no child is left behind To give pupils some extra support when it just doesn’t click. Remember the key is to build confidence. When pupils feel they’re doing well, they normally do!
Extension 2
Further challenge your pupils To stretch the minds of the more able. We don’t just move to the next objective, we challenge our young minds on what they’ve just learnt to cement a deep understanding.
Move On
Complete. Learn. Repeat Repeat this process for the remaining lesson objectives.
Plenary
Give the classroom a voice Pupils can provide immediate feedback on how the lesson went. It gives teachers a real understanding on how their pupils are grasping each topic.
Revision Check Point
Practice makes permanent This section prompts pupils as to when they should be reviewing topics, to transfer them to their long term memory.
